The design concept for and fabrication of Quonset huts orginated at the
Quonset Point Naval Air Station in Rholde Island. Several surviving Quonset
huts are included within a National Register historic district at this
military facility. The National Register inventory-nomination form is
available via the National Park Service's website. Additional information
might be obtained from Richard Greenwood, industrial archaeologist with the
Rhode Island Historic Preservation Commission (State Historic Preservation
Office)>
