Apologies for cross-posting.
Announcing a new web site, "Strategies for Protecting Archeological Sites on
Private Lands," at <www2.cr.nps.gov/pad/strategies/>.
"Strategies" serves as a guide to the wide variety of tools available for
protecting archeological sites on private lands. The site contains information
on strategies that are currently being used throughout the U.S., contact
information, and other sources of useful information. Key strategies include --
Land Ownership, Financial Strategies, Development Regulation, Laws Specific to
Archeology, Voluntary Strategies, and Site Management.
The project that produced this web site was partially funded by the National
Park Service's Cultural Resource Training Initiative, and was co-sponsored by
the Heritage Preservation Services Division and the Archeology and Ethnography
Program of the National Park Service, the Society for American Archaeology, the
Society for Historical Archaeology, The Archaeological Conservancy, the National
Trust for Historic Preservation, and the National Conference of State Historic
Preservation Officers. The project was carried out through a cooperative
agreement between the National Park Service and the Society for American
Archaeology.
I hope you find the web site's information helpful in protecting important
archaeological sites in your state and community.
