Since 1996 we are conducting an ongoing archaeological project at the
site of Panamá Viejo. A considerable effort is done in surveying the
whole site (about 30 Ha). In fact, the most important goal of the
present phase of the project is to evaluate the internal differentiation
in colonial times (1519.1671) and to locate areas of the precolombian
settlement (we have been partially succesful in reaching this goal).
Besides, and may be of irelevance given the character of this list, it
has been possible to excavate a few well dated (in terminus post and
ante quem) colonial contexts which have made posible to refine and
update the cronology of panamanian majolica types and to discuss
stylistic issues. A synthesis of results have been published in a local
journal (Revista Nacional de Cultura, 1997). I could send copies to
anyone interested in this subject.
I agree with Bob Schuyler in that a summary article in some of the
international journals would be of help. I´ll promise to work on that
direction. (By the way, we had a short report on current research
section of the SHA Newsletter, though I don´t have the complete
reference at hand).
(I am sure that I have been miss spelling a lot!!!!, my apologies)
