I have found that I am growing less fond of HVK over time but I still
admire many of his recordings. In particular I think he has done well
with Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Beethoven, Sibelius and Richard Strauss.

However, lately I have been cleaning out my CD drawers and finding that
many HVKs are going off to the used CD store. Ultimately, I find some
of his recordings seem bland and that there is a lack of feeling being
conveyed.

Part of why HVK is disliked has to do with the fact that he was not the
nicest person in the world. You will probably hear more about this from
other people. I also think that some of the complaints against HVK are
sour grapes over the fact that he was so widely known, so widely recorded
and given the helm of the Berlin Philharmonic.

No Wes, I don't think that you are a lesser person for liking HVK and I
think that even the most rabid HVK bashers on this list will grudingly
admit that they probably have a few Herbies lurking in their collections
also.
