Yesterday I heard for the first time Schumann's Pictures from the East
(Bilder aus dem Osten, Op 66), a work for piano four hands. The first
movement sounded vaguely familiar but in orchestral guise. There is no
mention of an arrangement in Schumann's work list. Does anyone know of
an orchestration of this movement which I may have heard years ago without
knowing what it was, or is it just that it sounds like something else
entirely?
