Joel Lazar wrote concerning Spohr:
>What's more interesting historically about his style is the extent to
>which a later-but still transitional figure such as Mendelssohn - will
>incorporate some features but use them with much more skill and restraint.
I certainly won't argue music theory with a professional in the field,
but Mendelssohn's music has never made an impact on me; it just bounces
off. Technical skills are obviously important, but for me, Mendelssohn
and I have no rapport with one another. So, I would willingly give up
each Mendelssohn recording I have just to keep one Spohr recording.
Since I don't have many, that's not a major sacrifice.
