Being ripped off is done against one's will, not with one's consent. Since
I am rather expert about the recording industry having worked in it for ten
years, I will say with confidence that skipping royalties isn't skipping
much. Most classical artists don't see royalty checks for quite sometime
after a record is made. It takes several years in most cases for a
recording to recoup its production costs. As Don Satz said in another
response, to give up royalties in exchange for international exposure and
the possibility of concert engagements is a very fair trade. Artists are
paid far more for their appearances than for their record sales.
