Yes. Same situation as you. And my plan was the same, to extract in the
spring.

Unfortunately, the queen and workers did exactly what the book says- they
must have had copies in the hive's library- and moved right up into the
supers and started excellent patterns of brood. So I ended up treating the
honey super like a brood box and eventually shifted it back to honey later
in the season.
My plan was excellent, but the bees refused to cooperate.
