I need all the ideas I can get from you experts. I have a mom whom I
have not seen, but called me after talking to another LC in our community
(she may also have been seen by the LC's LC colleague). This is baby #1,
she is now 3 1/2 months old, doing fine. Mostly from the beginning of
the BF experience the mom has had breast pain after a feeding, although
not after every feeding, but at least daily. Mom describes the pain as
burning of the nipples, stabbing pain internally and just "pain" in other
parts of the breast. Thrush, right? Mom has had 14 days of diflucan
during which she also did two different 3 day regimens of gentian violet.
Mom says she didn't feel there was any improvement with the
diflucan/gentian violet. We have also gone over the symptoms of
vasospasm and Reynaud's with the mom. Her answers to our questions
didn't seem to fit the pattern for either of those. Now the clincher--it
has never hurt after pumping! And mom is back at work and pumping during
the day while she and baby are separated. What else do we need to ask
her? What is going on? If she has an overgrowth of yeast, wouldn't she
consistently have pain--not just after "some" feedings? Help!!!
