Hi ye,
I hope this is the right list, Im trying to find out and research all I can
on a slave ship called the Enterprize which sank on the 25th March 1803 off
Mew Island
of the coast of N.Ireland.
She was carrying a cargo of sugar and spices along with over ten thousand silver
dollars, on a return trip to Liverpool.
Apart from any imformation one can supply me with? Does any body know if
there are registers or lists of slaves being sold, to who and from what ship
etc.in Havana, and if so who does one write to or ask for?
The imformation I have found so far is that she was owned by J.Leyland &co,
the captain was John Heron with a crew of 18 which 9 drowned and two one of
which was a negro and died from exposure.
By Loyds list she was a ship of 222 tons, having two decks. She was part
sheathed
with copper, surveyed in 1790, repaired in 1794 and 1796, with 14ft draught.
She carried 16 (No) 4 pound guns.
Most of the silver was recovered in 1833 by hard hat divers Using James Dean
design.
I would be most grateful for any help and advice needed.
Thank you.
Stephen.
