I'm brand new to the list, so forgive me if you covered this topic
recently.
I would like to hear a number of opinions about what is the best recording
of Stravinsky's *Le sacre du printemps* (Rite of Spring), with
explanations.
I am partial to the NYPhil/Bernstein; the texture has good clarity,
the solos are excellent, and I appreciate the quick tempi in the climax
movements. I also love the over-romanticized fourth movement (Spring
Rounds), even if Stravinsky probably wouldn't.
I also like Chicago/Ozawa, and Columbia/Stravinsky. For the opening
bassoon solo alone, I'm undecided, but Orchestra of St. Luke's/Craft
is nice. Comments?
Thanks,
Thomas Jerde
