It is quite attractive, tonal, mainstream Americana. Not as overtly
Romantic as Howard Hanson; not as "craggy" as Roy Harris. I would say,
if you like Hanson and Harris, you will more than likely enjoy Sowerby.
There are two superb CD's of his orchestral music on Cedille, including
a disc of his tone poems and another of the Symphony No. 2. There is
another disc (which I produced) on Albany with a wide sampling of his
choral music, including The Ark of the Covenant and his well-known hymn,
Come, Risen Lord.
