Here are some appetizing new recordings to look for:
1. Le Nozze Di Figaro conducted by Kuijken on Accent - Kuijken did a fine
job with Cosi fan tutte, and I expect similar results for Figaro. I'm sure
John will check my spelling for violations.
2. WTC, Book 1 performed on piano by Schepkin (Ongaku) - should be a fine
follow-up to Schepkin's Bach partitas.
3. Scharwenka string quartets on MDG - I've wanted to become familiar with
Scharwenka's music, and the string chamber route is a great place for me to
begin.
4. The most intriguing release is Rattle conducting Szymanowski's King
Roger coupled with the 4th symphony. This opera has lacked for a good
recording, and I doubt that Rattle will let me down.
In addition, three Bach series continue apace with volume 11 of Bowyer's
traversal of the organ works on Nimbus, volume 8 of Koopman's cantata
series on Erato, and another entry (one disc) in Herrick's organ series
on Hyperion.
I know that Bob Draper feels that "Mozart Mania" surrounds him, but I
really think that, when the money's on the line, Bach is front and center.
