Edgar Beach writes, concerning my review, (thoughts), on Boulez' "Repons."
>I think I would understand your review much better if you could clarify
the
>term "Explosante--fixe" Thank you
Oh, how I would like to make jokes about the title, but I don't want you to
get mad again!
"Explosante--Fixe is Boulez' own title. The liner notes in 15 words or
less: (I hope I'm understanding the composers intentions correctly) Boulez
was interested in the dialog between "rule and imagination." *Fixed* music
I assume is played as written, while *imaginatory* music would be subject
to elaboration such as improvisation and computer transformation.
The piece has some great sounds, though I started to experience listener
fatigue after awhile. Not bad.
