Aye, "Hang On" I reckon Most of Raff's "major" works were on LPs - I had
heard Most of 'em on ABC Radio before it became FM Stereo?? & I doubt if
Respighi's were Ever "out of print"?? The Size and Extant of "major"
(Old Fashioned) LP Catalogues were "Incredible"!! LPs were a "Postie's"
Nightmare - but Overseas they went - often taking Months; and often
arriving slightly less than 100% "Flat"!!. Record Clubs like WRC, Concert
Hall, "et al" were locally producing the "Latest" very soon after the
"Originals" were on Sale in the parent shops?? Some of my "Club" LPs of
Early Music have been TOTALLY transferred to CD "en bloc" - just the
40+Minutes as "El Cheapo"s!! Life prior to the CD was Not a "cultural
desert" - Yer just had to Work harder @ Your "vocation" as a 6AM start
Postman = I used to make a point of listening to an Hour Long Programme
called "Music @ Midnight" then ABC Radio 'went off Air' for the night.
Raff was a favourite on that session - due to his Concise works?? Likewise
Herren Mahler and Bruckner's shorter works??
Bill(Y) Arrh, remember the "Goode Olde Days"!!
