Steve Schwartz wrote concerning the correctness of Bach fugues:

Well said. My inital reaction to reading that Bach did not always
write fugues properly was negative: What individual or body of persons
has the right/authorization to corner the market on correct fugue writing?
Trail-blazers do not accept the "established"; they go their own way, and
I am so glad that there are always a few folks who do just that and enrich
so many other lives in the process.
One thing that's a given for me - nobody's fugues "hang together" better
than Bach's.
