There was an American Composers' Orchestra concert this month early
(May 12 I think?) with works by, among others, Zemlinsky and Fuchs (I
presume the entry- in the New Yorker was it?, I forget- meant Robert Fuchs,
1847-1927, a favorite composer of mine and a teacher of Zemlinsky's as well
as one of Mahler's, Sibelius', Schreker's, Melartin's, Wolf's, Korngold's,
and others). This was in New York City. Does anyone know what work by
Robert Fuchs was played?
(I may have an opportunity in a few days to look at Fuchs' 3rd string
quartet, which I am very much looking forward to, by the way- a work
from around the time of his 3rd symphony, as I recall, which latter
work I like very much indeed and find myself humming just about straight
through very often. Well, when I have 40 minutes free.:) It's one of
the .warmest. Romantic-era symphonies not in the standard repertoire I
know...)
