Re Barenboim as a replacement for Abbado with the Berlin Philharmonie.

I think it highly unlikely:

Daniel Barenboim already has a strong presence in Berlin as director of the
Staatsoper and he has a multi-year contract with the Chicago Symphony. He
is highly regarded in each venue and reciprocates the affection. I believe
he likes the present arrangement. Further, I do not believe one person has
ever held both posts in Berlin - even the ubiquitous Karajan.

Regards,

Bill Karzas [log in to unmask]
