Pardon my niggling, but I must comment on one of the intellectual souvenirs
of my recording sessions in Zlin--"Smetana" (or perhaps spelled "Smetina")
in Czech refers to cream, not, so far as I know, specifically to sour cream
(even though Americans often recognize it as a trademark referring to sour
cream). Another interesting one is the conductor Vaclav Smetacek, since
"smetacek" means "whisk broom." And, most tastily of all, it was on one of
those trips that I realized that it's easier to pronouce "strudel" with the
German R from the back of the throat than to try to do it in English.
