If I had a magic wand, I would give every mother a doula in labor to
reduce the narcotic/epidural/vacuum/forceps use. I see those as the major
interventions to change, because they lead to maternal-infant separation
(because babies get fevers and have to be in the nursery for antibiotics or
because they haven't been born in great condition) , hurt babies that won't
suck or don't suck well (because they are often deeply suctioned and/or
intubated) and shocks to maternal confidence. Warmly, Nikki Lee
