This is the current thinking on pruning cuts, and wounds to trees. However,
for grafting, it is extremely important to not let the graft dry out, or your
"take" percentage will really drop.
I have used masking tape for whip grafts, and it would dry and become
brittle before constricting growth. But it temporarily kept the graft from
drying. I would think grafting wax would be even better, though I've never
used it.
