Don Satz:

Michel Plasson's versions on EMI are worth checking out as well and
although this is the second time I've mentioned him in two days, I have
no financial interest in him! These symphonies never sound like Gounod
and remind me of the Berwald symphonies.
I take Don's description of Marriner as a "light" conductor to mean that
his performances sound restrained compared with, say, Neeme Jarvi or Antal
Dorati, and I think it's a fair description. However, he lets his hair
down very enthusiastically in the Walton series he did for Chandos. But
I can't imagine him conducting Mahler or Richard Strauss, but I'm sure
someone'll tell me he has.
