A piece for multiple solo cellos and orchestra (I think) was commissioned
by the New York Philharmonic for 300 grand.  This is what my prof told me,
and I don't always trust him, so if anyone knows otherwise...

If you find people who are about to throw away Penderecki CDs ask for
my address.  I know a couple of people who have purchased and held on to
Penderecki CDs.  I had to laugh at the psychiatric treatment--he can stir
quite an emotional response at times.

Oh, I think I like Mr. Newberry's suggestion for commissioning.  I would
feel better finding some starving composers...although I guess having
myself on the list is a start.
