I am very appreciate what Naxos has done and also very surprise on the
success of Naxos over the world.
When I starts to buy CDs in classical music (since I got financial
capability), I bought Naxos CD because of its extremely low price-
about 10 years ago, at that time CDs are quite expensive in Hong Kong.
After some time, I switch to those large labels, such as Decca, Philips
etc. By the time, I thought the performance (interpretation) and recording
quality of Naxos was not as good as those famous lables. In addition, the
performers were not as famous as others, they were not legends in my point
of view. I then refused Naxos CDs in the following years, even though they
were much cheaper than the famous labels. Actually, it is not quite
successful in HK 10 years ago. But recently, (2 to 3 years), after I read
the review from overseas magazines, knowing that Naxos was very successful
in US and Europe. In addition, local magazines started to introduce those
CDs that were globally reconized good interpretation and recording quality.
May be the selection of performers are becoming more matured in the recent
years, like Tintner, just quote an example. In these few years, I started
to collect Naxos CDs again, especially for those appriased CDs.
I will continue to buy Naxos CDs if their interpretation/performance is
good. And I will buy those classical legend performers, conductors in the
past from other labels- 90% are those reissues from the famous labels.
Good job Naxos. Cheap in price has no relation to quality and performance!
Happy listening!
