I would have to say the most difficult pieces for the guitar are the
Paganini 24 caprices originally written for the violin.  Not only are they
among the most difficult pieces for the violin, but their arrangements for
the guitar are without equal.  I have a recording of all 24 caprices on the
guitar performed by Eliot Fisk and it is breathtaking.
