SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY, Department of Anthropology, invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in
Historical Archaeology beginning Fall Semester, 2001. Position is
dependent on funding. SDSU is a community-oriented institution of
higher learning committed to educational excellence in serving the
unique needs of the greater San Diego region. Applicants should have a
demonstrated commitment to post-European Contact Historical
Archaeology as reflected in their graduate training, dissertation
research, successfully completed or ongoing fieldwork, read conference
papers, and refereed publications. While applicants are not required
to have a current or past involvement in the historical archaeology of
southern California, Baja, or the Borderlands, the development of such
a concentration and expertise will be a fundamental condition of
employment and retention. Experience in CRM is desirable as the
successful candidate may be expected to teach courses relevant to
resource management archaeology. In addition to upper division courses
in the methodology of historical archaeology and the historical
archaeology of southern California, position responsibilities will
include one or more lower division introductory courses in biological
or cultural anthropology and at least one graduate-level seminar each
year. An ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in
quantitative methods is also desirable. The successful applicant will
complement an existing Archaeology Faculty with concentrations in the
prehistoric archaeology of southern and central California, the
greater Southwest, and southern Mesoamerica. This position will
constitute an important component of the SDSU Department of
Anthropology's defined commitment to training in applied aspects of
anthropology within the context of the diverse southern California
borderlands populace.

Salary and rank commensurate with experience. A completed Ph.D. is
required.
