Hello everyone!
A quick question for the group. I am beginning a
major phase of my diss research, and during this
portion, I will be drawing whole ceramic vessels.
Many years ago when I started learning how to do
artifact recording, I worked with a particular
tool for this purpose. I would like to find one
of those tools now, but I have no idea what the
tool's name was. I hope someone can help me out.
This dandy item was to help record the profiles of
whole pots. It looked much like a harmonica
crossed with a heavy lice comb, with lots of
little teeth. The metal dowels moved back and
forth through the handle. By pushing the teeth up
against a vessel, the dowels would conform to the
shape of the pot. When combined with a good pair
of calipers, that was a really great time saver.
Does anyone know what that tool is called and
where I might get one? You can email me off list,
and if I find one (after I buy it) I promise to
tell everyone where I purchased it!
Thanks,
Tim
