September Concert Announcement -

JORDANIA, SARBU AT CARNEGIE HALL 9/13
WITH AMERICAN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Shostakovich Symphony No. 7, Brahms concerto slated

Conductor Vakhtang Jordania and violinist Eugene Sarbu will appear in
concert with the American Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall Sept 13.
Shostakovich's "Leningrad" Symphony and Brahms' Violin Concerto are the
featured works. Completing the program will be the Overture to Wagner's
Tannhauser.

Before he fled to the West in 1983, Georgia-born Jordania was a protege
of legendary Russian conductor and Shostakovich champion Yevgeny Mravinsky
in the Soviet Union. He is currently music director of Moscow's Russian
Federal Orchestra. Earlier this year, Jordania conducted the ASO in
Shostakovich's Symphony No. 15, and London's Royal Philharmonic in
Shostakovich's Symphony No. 11. In the spring of 1999, he toured
Europe with the Kharkov (Ukraine) Philharmonic Orchestra. Other recent
engagements include concerts with the Seoul Philharmonic and Philharmonia
Hungarica.

Eugene Sarbu, hailed as "destined for greatness" by London's Daily
Telegraph, studied in his native Romania before coming West, where his
teachers included Ivan Galamian and Nathan Milstein. The winner of
numerous prizes, including those of the Paganini, Sibelius, Leventritt
and Queen Elisabeth of Belgium competitions, Sarbu performs on 1729
Stradivarius. His recordings include the Sibelius Concerto on EMI.

Tickets to the concert are priced at $60, $55, $40, $20 and $15; call
Carnegie Charge at (212) 247-7800 for more ticket information.
