Much as I first resisted his message I think that Charles Baudelaire nailed
the morally neutral (perhaps ambivalent) character of beauty in his "Hymne
a la Beaute". E.g.,

"Do you come from the deep heaven or do you emerge from the abyss?"

and finally,

"Angel or siren, what does it matter, fairy with eyes of velour,
if you make my moments less heavy?" (Please excuse the rickety
   translation.)
