Perahia here in Munich recently did a cycle of the last eight Mozart piano
concertos. The performances had Maazel conducting the Bavarian Radio
Symphony. Two of the performances I attended live and the rest I caught
live on the Bavarian Radio System. That's about all I can add to Mark
Seely's enconium and Philip Peters's echoing of it. Superb playing -
perfect control of both technique and emotion. Along with Brendel, I do
believe that Perahia is the pianist who currently excels at both Mozart and
Beethoven. The worse news: at every performance Perahia's Mozart was
doubled up with Maazel and the Radio Symphony trying their hands at eight
of Bruckner's symphonies. Where Perahia's Mozart shone, Maazel's Bruckner
glowered.
