Well, Don, you seem to buy more recordings than I do. So how's your
marriage? Well, maybe you are making a killing in real estate that you
would never make as an Econ Professor. Yes, Walter, the good old days.
For me they are the late 60's when people worked in record shops because
they loved classical music. Last time I went to Tower Classical in
Berkeley I wanted to replace my LP of the Waldstein/Gilels with the CD and
couldn't find it. I asked the salesperson where it was, assuming that they
had it and he said, "Sorry, I can't help you. I don't like the Waldstein."
Then I was at another classical music section in Concord/Walnut Creek where
the salesperson in the section answered a customer and obviously did not
know the difference between the two John Williams, thinking they were the
same. Oh, yes, then Amoeba classical section in Berkeley where someone
was wondering if he would find Sarah Brightman in classical or popular and
the classical attendant (what do they call them now?) said he had no idea
where to find her. At least he did not offer bad advice and no advice is
certainly far preferable than inaccurate information or rude treatment.

After your experience at Borders, Don, I pledge to never shop there, ever.
We collectors have got to stick together. As far as old days, the last of
them were in the early 70's as far as I can tell. I no longer look for the
cheapest source or for the most helpful. I look for the least adversive.
So I buy from Total E, Berkshire or BMG. When I go into a used classical
record store I always hope no one is there and try to tolerate the idiots
who are there. Why have anyone there? Why not just have a cashier? Is it
to prevent theft? It is all set up electronically. So just get rid of the
creeps and stock the bins at night so we won't have to put up with them.
Obviously the treatment Don received has me pissed off. BOYCOTT BORDERS is
my new motto. We classical music nuts gotta stick together and I'll be
damned it I ever go into a Borders Again. Don, you got me on yur side!!!
:) Okay, I'm tongue in cheek, but I really vow not to ever go to a Borders
again, just on principle!!!!!
