Mr.  Clements obviously did not like Sybeberg's film; I have it on
laserdisc and find it quite interesting to be watched from time to time;
not a day-to-day Parsifal (does such exist?) though.  It's kitsch, it's
mannerist, it's exaggerated, intentionally so, but some moments do have
a splendor.  I would select the a capella choir while knights gather
together, each one bearing an Occidental militaristic symbol, ancient and
modern, among them the swastika; no I'm not such a naive, but I find the
scene is illuminating.  Incidentally, not Karajan, but Armin Jordan is the
conductor; he appears also as Amfortas.
