I would describe it as late Romantic moving toward Neoclassic. The Classic
Concerto on the disc is rather Neoclassic. The disc is now available on
Naxos as part of the American Music Series.
While his music is uneven in quality to my ears, from time to time I
find it quite excellent. The Classic Concerto is a favorite. My all time
favorite work of his remains unrecorded, the wonderful Organ Concerto in C.
I did hear rumors at one time that Biggs recorded it with Ormandy but that
it was never released.
You may want to try two other Sowerby discs on Cedille. If you want more
info on him, let me know.
