When my former station KOPN-FM axed its classical programming they minced
no words about the fact that they didn't care about losing the classical
listeners since their new format ("HERE she comes to save the DAY!") was
going to pick up so many more. Resistance to change has gotten such a
bad rap that all resistance to change gets a bad rap, and those of us
who clamored to keep the classical programming on the air were labelled
"crybabies who can't change with the times." Of course once KOPN axed its
classical show, the other station in town cut its music back to three
hours a day which featured mostly non-descript baroque.
