I would mention two swift Mendelssohn 5s: Masur and the Leipzig Gewandhaus
Orchestra, coupled with the rarely recorded Symphony No. 1 on Teldec
2292-44933-2--1990 digital recording--and Munch/Boston Symphony on RCA;
this one was issued with Symphony No. 4 ("Italian") around 1959-60 and has
been reissued a couple of times, I believe. Both are propulsive, bracing
performances worth checking out.
