Actually, since Mahler indicated a long pause after the first movement
of the 2nd symphony, putting the first movement on one CD and the rest
on another makes perfect sense. There are many fine recordings of Mahler
4, including Kubelik/Morison, Mengelberg/Vincent, Van Beinum/Ritchie,
Kletzki/???, Neuman/???, and Szell/Raskin. Bernstein's with the boy
soprano works for two movements, then falls apart.
