I saw such a book about 20 years ago.  I can't remember anything about it
except how it worked.  Each melody has a starting note, which then goes
up or down or remains the same from there.  Ignore the rhythym.  So for
instance "God Save the Queen" ("America") is *SUDUUUSUDDDUDDU.

* is the first note, S=same again, U=up, D=down.

What's astonishing is that it works. Or seemed to.
