I am totally Curious about what "Rackets" are going on?? The Australian
Federal Parliament "mouthed platitudes" about the Prices of CDs - told
us "You're right, Now we fixed it up" and "Zero-Blank-Zilch" happened to
the Price!!  Were I to buy a "Typical CD" @ a shop - let's be specific:-
Phillips 454 934-2 - "Tallis Xmas" = I would pay $US 20 (Twenty USD) = Mind
you the local "bloke" would NOT know who Tallis was (I'd not ask for John
Taverner in case the Modern One had written a similar work!!).  As I see
from E-Mail addresses that we have an "International Group" let's see what
the "world" pays, PLEASE??

 [There are many rackets going on, and they have been discussed at
 length in more appropriate forums (this has nothing specific to do
 with classical music - all genres are affected equally) for years now.
 In US$, the following apply for an average full-price (not premium
 price) CD, give or take a little:  a $15-18 CD in the US costs $18-22
 in most of Europe (higher for some labels, etc.) and $20-25 in Asia (The
 Tallis Scholars disc mentioned above would be $16-17 in most US stores,
 not discounted and not including local sales tax).  Domestic labels
 are usually, though not always, less expensive in their country of
 origin, and there are of course lots of exceptions to the ranges given
 above, but this gives you a general idea of typical retail pricing for
 major label releases.  -Dave]
