My experience is that everything I've heard from Richter is fascinating.
What he does with Schubert is astounding; he pulls the tempos around
significantly to the point where you would expect resulting disaster.
Instead of disaster, it's a glorious rendition that I hear.  I don't
think Brendel could do this, and he's my "baseline" for Schubert.
