That's not easy to do, since King interprets Handel so well. Here's what
I know:
Single discs - Heroic Arias (Bowman), English Arias (Bowman), Italian Duets
(Bowman/Fisher), Music for Royal Occasions (four soloists).
Operas - Ottone.
Oratorios - Alexander Balus, Joshua, Judas Maccabaeus, Joseph and his
Brethen, Deborah, and Occasional Oratorio.
My favorite single disc is the Heroic Arias; might be the best recording I
have, period. Ottone has superior music, and Alexander Balus is a rousing
tale with many superb arias. Start with those three.
Harmonia Mundi has recorded quite a few of Handel's large-scale works, and
each is a standout. Vox, after Harmonia Mundi and Hyperion, has probably
recorded Handel vocal works the most: be careful, performances and
recorded sound are not up the the standards of the two "H" labels.
