Just to give Leighton his due, I recount the following anecdote supposedly
about the witty conductor Sir Thomas Beecham, Bart.

When asked if he ever conducted Stockhausen, Beecham replied, "No, I've
never conducted Stockhausen, but I may have stepped in some once."
