A couple of weeks ago I got next season's schedule for the Fort Worth
Symphony, and they're actually sticking one toe into the 20th century as
it comes to an end. On the classical series their only living composer
is John Corigliano, represented by his "Promenade Overture." From Debussy
we'll have "Iberia" and "La Mer," from Sibelius the 5th Symphony and Violin
Concerto, the 3rd symphony of Rachmaninoff, the 10th of Shostakovich, and
the 3rd piano concerto of Prokofiev (which they also did last year). Oh,
I almost forgot, there is also Roussel's "Festin de l'Araignee." Maybe in
2001 some of my fellow Cowtowners won't be saying "Albert Who?" anymore.
