Interesting that you should mention this Alan. In addition to the plastic
foundation I also put out about 550 pounds of wax foundation. With hives
that were plugged out I put a box on between the brood supers. If this was
wax it was drawn much quicker than the plastic. Your suggestion of two
traits might be correct, or their might be a genetic ability to recognize
wax quality which is fortunately lacking in the hives readily drawing plastic.
