Today, tipped off by some kind list member, my husband and I went to Tower
Records for their Sony Sale.
I had no idea I'd find this on cd, but on a hunch we looked. It was one
of our favorite nutty Bach recordings. It inspired me to make my own
arrangements for whatever combination of instruments I could find over the
last 33 years!
What is it? -- I hear you breathlessly inquire (I hope).
It's E. Power Biggs playing the Six Bach Trio Sonatas BWV 525-530 written
originally for organ. He plays it on the Pedal Harpsichord.
It is just WONDERFUL. And the cd sounds even better than our record did,
too. (We probably wore out the original recording). What a treat! If
you have never heard these on pedal harpsichord, then you have never heard
them. They SWING! The lines are separate! The pieces sound much lighter
than they do on the organ, of course, and they're more dancelike. Biggs'
rhythm is impeccable.
Sony Essential Classics SBK 60290, total time on ONE cd: 74'16.
