>By the way, Mr. Stockhausen, why your CD's are so expensive? It's almost
>double the average one.
Stockhausen is a "cult" figure. He has moreover set himself up as such and
has taken direct control of the processes of marketing all recordings of
his music.
It is rumoured that the man has, to some degree at least, taken leave of
his senses. Such a notion would tend to be supported by his genuine belief
that he is not really a mere human being, but an alien ambassador from some
distant planet in another solar system.
The development of this particular persona seems to have originated at
about the time he began to write his first Opera.
Perhaps he should have stuck with writing complex serial pieces for piano,
and chamber groups. Now he can't even write a simple String Quartet,
without having to incorporate theatrical gimmicks such as four helicopters.
However, since helicopter joy rides are normally quite expensive, I should
imagine that any Quartet that chooses to perform the piece will enjoy the
privilege of a freebie scenic flight!
