His early stuff was great...  His later work seems more like that of a
teacher than a performer...

I have found great enjoyment from his two CD's of Brahms and Beethoven
violin concertos with so many extras...  the cadenzas of other artists...
which I found fascinating...  a lot of work went into these extra bits.
