The programmable pause is a function which can be included in the CD
itself. Sony has provided a 6 second pause as a programmable track in
many of their completest releases such as the recent Miles Davis/Gil Evans
set. Music which was continuous in the original performance may be split
into logical sections at the election of the listenner. All we need is
sensitive recording producers to instruct the people who assemble the
tracks to do so.
