On Friday and Saturday Singapore had the privilege of having Ma Yoyo
to play the Elgar concerto as well as Bright Sheng's two poems for cello
and orchestra. He was fantastic on all counts for the Elgar, and last
night after the Elgar he acknowleged Yehudi Menuhin as "one of the great
musicians of our time" and played as an encore very slowly the Sarabande
from the 6th Suite. It was heart-wrenching.
