Nate DeMaria:
>A passion for classical music is definately bred through exposure.
On the one hand, "familiarity breeds contempt." On the other, Gorecki's
Symphony No. 3 - not the most superficially attractive work ever written
- became a respectable hit after a radio station played it at least once
every day for an entire week. If you think about it, that's how pop music
is marketed. The much fewer outlets for classical - in Stirling Newberry's
phrase, "scarce resources" - are a probable factor in the smaller size of
its audience.
I also wonder whether a classical fan buys more CDs than a pop fan does.
