Not an expert.  I'm not sure which Michaelangeli performances you are
referring too.  I have a 1943 recording of the Schumann and Frank's
symphonic variations with Mitropoulos and Wallenstein respectively.  Also
have a recording of the Bach chaconne transcribed by Busoni from the d
minor partita for violin recorded in the late 30's or early 40's.  Have
a Liszt 1 with Ansermet, early 40's I think.  All are electrifying.
My principle is that any early pre 1960's Michaelangeli is worth
acquiring...incredible power, drama and feeling.
